1 | Five Things

   So, I've decided to create this series of five things that I'm really enjoying at the moment. These days, it's the little things that really matter to me and really, the little things are what add up to big things. We can't have exciting major life events every day, week, or even year, but we can take moments to appreciate the little things that make our days shine.


 1 | First on the list is, dun dun dun.... the beach. Shocking, right? One look at my website and that might seem like an obvious answer but to be honest, I haven't been hanging out at the beach as much as I used to so when I go it feels refreshing. We can easily get jaded by our routines and natural beauty we see around us on a daily basis. That's kind of what happened to me with the beach. I went almost every day so it was just the "same ol' same ol'", but after taking a break and then stepping onto that sand again, I knew I was home again. I love feeling the energy of the warm sand under my bare feet and the rush of cold ocean water in winter wash over my legs. No matter what mood I'm in when I arrive at the beach, once I'm there, it's all zen.




2 | Yogi Sweet Tangerine Positive Energy Tea- Tangerine tea is so good, especially this one. Every January when I'm craving fresh, healthy foods after the indulgent holiday season, citrus is one of my go-to fruits to generously consume. I've been a fan of Yogi tea for a long time and about a year ago I spotted this flavor. I'm so glad I did. I highly recommend it if you like tangerines. I've only had it hot but I'm thinking when the weather warms up a little, I'll pour it over some ice for a cool refreshing drink. As far as the "positive energy" goes, I can't say it gives me actual physical energy but the flavor definitely elevates my mood as it suggests, so I'll take it!



 3 | Essentialism by Greg McKeown- This is the second book I chose to read this year and it was mainly because I was browsing through my Kindle library and saw I had purchased it months ago and never read it. Sometimes that happens, when I download a book thinking I'm going to read it "next" but then another one comes along and I forget about it.

  Anyway, this was such a great read for the beginning of the year. While minimalism mainly focuses on keeping our "things" in check and paring down everything we keep around us, essentialism focuses on the non-physical clutter. It's saying no to non-essential tasks we mindlessly do every day because we're just used to doing them. It's prioritizing what's really important to us and getting rid of everything else. One interesting tidbit I learned from the book is that Bill Gates finds it essential to take one week off twice a year just to read for the entire week. How amazing would that be? It really got me thinking about priorities and slowing down the hustle. If we use our time wisely, we can say no to "busy" and yes to life and what we really want to be doing.



4 | Victoria on PBS Masterpiece-  I'm not one who watches much tv so when I do it has to be something really good. Victoria is one of those shows. The new season just started here in the US, and I can't wait to see how Victoria fares as a mother and queen. We don't learn nearly enough about world history in school in the US so it's fascinating to learn more about Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. If you enjoy period dramas I highly recommend this series. You can watch it on the PBS website as well.

  The one other show I'm watching right now is The Crown on Netflix about Queen Elizabeth. I find it equally as interesting and it's enjoyable to see the monarchy during different eras.




5 | Spotify and my Fresh Beginnings playlist - Music is probably my main source of creative inspiration. I love classical music and music without lyrics in general because I find that my mind is able to create a story or scene from the music rather than hearing what the artist wants to say and creating the story for you.
